AN 87-YEAR-OLD Italian woman who contracted coronavirus has recovered after spending a week in hospital. Armanda Bottini Campolunghi started showing the first symptoms of the virus, including vomiting and a high temperature.

Her family were worried as she suffers from Type 2 Diabetes and had recently fractured her femur. She was with her relatives when she started feeling ill. She was taken to the hospital San Matteo di Pavia in Lombardy.
Mr Cagnazzi said doctors regularly updated the family on the woman’s health condition. Her body reacted well to the antiviral treatments and she remained determined throughout her stay in hospital.
By March 1, Ms Campolunghi had already tested negative for COVID-19. Doctors described the woman, as the ‘iron grandmother’, or in Italian ‘nonna di ferro’.
