Number of Coronavirus patients in Intensive care in ITALY drops below 2,000 for first time
Fewer than 2,000 people remain in intensive care units in Italy with Covid-19, as new cases continue to slow and the pressure on Italian hospitals eases.
The number of coronavirus patients currently in intensive care fell by 53 on Monday to 1,956, according to official figures, marking the first time in more than a month that the number has been under 2,000.
Of 105,813 people currently ill, 20,353 are receiving non-intensive hospital care and 83,504 are in self-isolation at home. The number of people in hospital fell by more than 1,000 in total in the past 24 hours.
Another 1,739 cases of the new coronavirus were confirmed in the past 24 hours, compared to 2,324 the previous day. The daily rate of increase stands at 0.9 percent.
