Italy’s coronavirus death toll reached 15,362 victims on Saturday, Italian authorities announced, as the number of patients in intensive care units dropped for the first time since the beginning of the outbreak in the country.
Some 1,480 people in Italy have recovered from the coronavirus, which means the country’s total recovery number now stands at 20,996.
Earlier in the epidemic, it was as high as 3. This value represents the average number of people to which a single infected person will transmit the virus. An epidemic with a reproductive number below 1 will gradually disappear.
