Italy will open its first floating hospital to treat Coronavirus patients in the port of Genoa, in the northwest region of Liguria, on 23 March.

The GNV Splendid, made available by the MSC Swiss-Italian shipping group, will host Coronavirus patients receiving medium-intensive care as well as people discharged from Ligurian hospitals but who must remain in quarantine.
The ship has been transformed into a hospital in record time, with beds for 400 patients in addition to around 50 beds for medical and maritime staff in a separate area.
Splendid will remain moored at the Genoa and has been made available to the Liguria Region at the symbolic value of €1 until the end of the emergency period.

“Inside this ship, the most fragile people will find a place to be treated and cared for in the most appropriate way before returning home,”.
