A Mediterranean Cyclone – is on course to strike Italy in the next 24 hours as parts of the country are warned of torrential rainfall and intense winds.

The storm, often called a “Medicane” (Mediterranean + hurricane) has many features similar to tropical hurricanes and typhoons.
Bad weather will arrive in Italy tomorrow, (23/11/2019), hitting Sardinia, Piedmont and Liguria in the morning very heavily, then spreading to Lombardy, Emilia Romagna, Tuscany, & Lazio region in the afternoon.
The real deterioration of the weather is expected at the weekend, when the cold North Atlantic air mass will fully flow into the Mediterranean and will give rise to a particularly intense and extensive cyclone, capable of enveloping all of Italy in a similar way to what happened in the past 48 hours
The only difference will be the different location of the cyclone: this new vortex will develop between Corsica and the Ligurian Sea and will have the greatest effects on central and northern Italy between Saturday 23 and Sunday 14.
For these 8 regions, the risk of heavy floods is very high. These powerful storms usually happen during October and November, when sea surface temperatures in the Mediterranean are still quite warm, although they can occur at any time of year.
