Pompeii, Italy, October 29 – The ancient Pompeii was closed at 13:30 Monday due to high winds whipping across the ancient Roman city.

Officials said the decision was taken to ensure the safety of visitors.
The site will remain closed until “access and use in complete safety can be guaranteed”. The visitors already in the site have been instructed to leave “with caution”.
The site near Naples, buried by an eruption from nearby Mt Vesuvius in 79 AD, attracts thousands of visitors a year.
