Rome suffered widespread flooding, particularly in the eastern suburbs but also in the city centre, thanks to a violent storm on the evening of Sunday 21 October.
Unexpectedly heavy showers of rain and hailstones led to commuter chaos, causing some motorists to abandon their semi-submerged cars on flooded roads
There are also reports of fallen trees and rubbish floating on streets of the capital.
Rome’s public transport provider ATAC has closed four metro stations due to flooding: Colli Albani, Lucio Sestio and Cinecittร  on the A line and Pietralata on the B line.The Basilica di S. Sebastiano was reportedly flooded with half a metre of water. The mayor of Rome, announced that emergency teams were working throughout the night to “restore the situation to normal as quickly as possible.”
