The US has hit a new record for the highest number of coronavirus deaths reported in a single day, hitting 12,908 deaths following a spike of 1,890 fatalities.

The previous record for most new US COVID-19 deaths in a single day was on April 4 with a spike of 1,344 cases, according to data from Johns Hopkins University.
Across the country, there are over 398,813 cases of the virus reported as of Tuesday evening. In the US there’s a reported fatality rate of 3.2% from the virus. More than 22,000 people have recovered from respiratory illness.
