Over 5,400 km of Italian coastal waters have got the top mark of “excellent” in the annual survey for 2020 of the National Environment Protection System.

This amounted to 95% of the beaches classified, said the survey complied with the help of national environmental agency ISPRA and regional agencies.

Sardinia and Puglia topped the poll with 99.7% of “excellent” bathing beaches. They were also top for the distance of coastline with such beaches.
